Fire safety management is concerned with minimising the fire risk to life, property, business continuity and the environment throughout the life of a building. This course emphasises the development of management skills for fire safety as it relates to the context of the built environment. You will play a role in the management and leadership of teams involved in the provision of safe working environment and in the management of fire safety provision in organisations. The course builds confidence and capability through the development of a range of competences and underpinning knowledge for practising professionals in the field of fire safety management. Students are encouraged to seek summer placements within supporting fire industries and every effort is made to assist in this important aspect of development and service integration. International opportunities include travel and work placement with ‘Operation Florian’ which is a charitable organisation working to improve fire service infrastructures in countries where they are lacking. Recent deployments have been to Zimbabwe. There is the potential for international exchange visits with other universities or with international fire safety companies, especially construction-based companies. We have partner colleges/universities in the Middle-East and Hong Kong where English is widely spoken and there is the potential for exchange visits. Other exchanges and schemes such as ERASMUS are available.
