About the course

This course is aimed at registered podiatrists who are interested in the application and practice of forensic podiatry. This includes identification through the analysis of crime scene footprint evidence and footwear, and also through forensic gait analysis. It will focus on the practice of forensic techniques such as photography, print and foot impression capture, footwear construction and fit and the appreciation of wear features.

You will be taught by world leaders in the field of forensic gait analysis, footprint examination and feet-in-shoe examination.
Teaching will be illustrated through real criminal cases which the lecturers themselves have been involved with. A workshop setting will be used in order to encourage participation.
You will be introduced to the basic skills and competencies required to understand the rudiments of forensic podiatry. This course will encourage you to further develop these skills through continuing your studies and gaining shadowing opportunities.
The course provides you with an opportunity to gain an understanding of the application of forensic podiatry and learn techniques in image capture, software processes and report writing. You will also gain a basic understanding of law, expert witnessing and principles of forensic science as well as the use of research evidence in forensic podiatry.

Teaching and assessment

Teaching is delivered through a range of teaching methods including lectures, practical sessions and group discussions. Assessment will involve a combination of seminar presentations, practical assessments and written assessment.
