Course summary

OVERVIEW

This course focuses on the development of skills and knowledge required for forensic psychology practice. We've designed this course for students to progress from masters level study towards practitioner status.

This course is predominantly work-based but you’ll also learn through a rolling programme of university-based workshops supported by an online learning platform. When you’re based at work, you’ll work under the supervision of both a university-based academic and a work-based clinical supervisor.

You’ll learn how to train other professionals in psychological skills and knowledge, and how to provide effective consultancy in a range of forensic settings. You’ll develop key skills for working in forensic settings, with a focus on undertaking assessments, formulations and interventions. Adhering to ethical and professional practice standards will underpin all of your work during the course.

Through the Professional Development in Forensic Psychology Practice units you’ll reflect on the development of your forensic psychology skills and practice, completing reflective diaries and learning logs throughout the duration of your studies.

Our course tutors have forensic research, practice and supervision experience, and continue to work in forensic practice alongside their teaching here at Manchester Met.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Successful completion of this course will provide you with eligibility to apply to the register to practice as forensic psychologists in the UK (pending external approval).

You’ll spend most of your time on placement, providing supervised experience towards developing the skills required to be a forensic practitioner.
