Course summary
**Course Overview**- Go further in forensics, with an integrated course designed to build on a solid base of scientific understanding, with the specialist skills to collect and evaluate DNA evidence.- This four-year integrated master’s degree offers the chance to go deeper into the field of forensic science. You’ll cover many of the same modules you’ll find in the BSc course, learning about various aspects of forensics – investigation, anthropology, chemistry and biology – before ultimately specialising in forensic biology, with an emphasis on the generation, interpretation and evaluation of DNA evidence.- It’s a course taught by a mixture of experienced senior forensic scientists, CSIs and research-active academics who are leaders of the field. And, thanks to our ground-breaking partnership with Lancashire Constabulary, you’ll also hear insights from active professionals, and could even have the chance to gain experience alongside working CSIs in an operational environment.- We are pioneers of the discipline – the UK’s first university to be equipped with crime scenes and dedicated forensic labs. That means you’ll have the chance to work with our state-of-the-art facilities, including ABI genetic analysers, qPCR machines and Next Generation Sequencers. This has been further enhanced through our partnership with Lancashire Constabulary through the Lancashire Forensic Science Academy (LFSA).- So, by the time you graduate, you’ll have the advanced qualification and specialist skills you’ll need for a role in forensic sciences, crime scene investigation, molecular biology and more.**Why study with us**- Together with Lancashire Constabulary, we have founded the Lancashire Forensic Science Academy, which offers the chance for CSI shadowing, specialist placements and collaborative research projects.- Regular guest speakers visit us to share their expertise in areas like law, ballistics and DNA, while former students offer insights from their career path.- This masters-level study will provide a depth of knowledge that offers a real competitive advantage in a busy jobs market.
