If you are interested in the impact of globalisation on international development and how development and globalisation impact on the environment, then our BSc Geography and International Development with Foundation Year is the degree for you. It will give you a broad understanding of challenging issues ranging across social and cultural geography, environment and development studies.The programme is ideal if you want a flexible evening course that allows you to explore and deepen your personal or professional interest in development and globalisation, without putting your life on hold.You will choose from a wide range of modules that respond to the demands of today's workplace and are linked to the research interests of our staff. You also complete a piece of research or a literature review in an area of special interest to you. This programme gives you the opportunity to study with internationally recognised experts who are defining the field with their groundbreaking research.You will also benefit from our mix of classroom and field-based teaching allowing you to build social and professional networks, and to develop important skills in data collection and analysis. You will develop the social and technical skills you need for both academic research and the modern workplace.Upon successful completion of the Foundation Year, you can automatically progress on to our three-year, full-time evening study BSc Geography and International Development.We also offer part-time Foundation Year degrees which allow you to spread out your Foundation Year studies over two years. As the 'Foundation Year' is made up of 120 credits, as a part-time student you can take 60 credits in each of your first and second years before starting the main four-year BSc Geography and International Development. This means that you can take six years to complete the part-time degree with Foundation Year.**HIGHLIGHTS**- Our Foundation Year programmes will fully prepare you for undergraduate study and are ideal if you returning to study after a gap, or if you have not previously studied the relevant subjects, or if you didn't achieve the grades you need for a place on your chosen undergraduate degree.- We offer multiple approaches to the study of societies and cultures, human geography, and sustainability, poverty and development, as well as community and citizenship, at local, regional and global levels.- One of the unique strengths of our Department of Geography is the breadth of research interests of our staff. Subsequently, we offer a very wide range of courses that reflect the disciplinary breadth of development and globalisation, while also allowing you to engage with other disciplines, such as anthropology and sociology.- You will be surrounded by committed fellow students from all cultures, backgrounds and career stages who are eager to share their experience and expertise with their peers.- We have strong links with the London International Development Centre, which can enhance your employability.- Ours is a vibrant research culture, powered by a shared passion for learning and intellectual engagement among our academics and students.
