Course summary

During this degree, you will study some of the most pressing global and environmental challenges of our time, with particular emphasis on human, digital and environmental geographies. Whilst first year modules cover both human and physical geography, you will specialise in human geography (social science: dynamics of people and places) as you progress through the programme. This degree is perfect for you if you want to study a mix of human and physical geography in your first year, specialising in human, digital and environmental geographies as you progress through the programme. In Years 2 and 3 we offer a wide range of modules that cover some of the most pressing global and environmental challenges of time, including: migration and how this shapes us and the places where we live, environmental governance and justice, climate change, gentrification, energy and food security, and critical development geographies and geopolitics.Throughout your degree there will be an emphasis on gaining practical skills and putting them to use in a critical manner in exciting fieldwork locations in the UK and around the world. You will receive all of the training needed to carry out independent research in a range of contexts. We encourage and train our students to be both critical and creative in their research approaches and methods. If you decide at the end of Year 1 that you want to specialise in Physical Geography, you can transfer (if your grades are sufficient) to the Geography BSc degree.
