PGCE Secondary - Geography with ODA (QTS)

Our Secondary PGCE Geography programme has been developed to ensure that PGCE students:
• Learn to teach 11-18 secondary Geography in the UK, covering the National Curriculum, GCSE and Advanced level.
• Become reflective, secondary school Geography teachers with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Underpin classroom practice with theory.
• Develop a depth of knowledge and understanding about the geography curriculum, lesson planning, pedagogy, learning, progression, assessment, fieldwork, GIS, resources, controversial issues, values, reflective practice and professional development.
• Use contemporary local, national and international issues and events to deliver key concepts, processes and ideas.
• Develop a range of skills including fieldwork, enquiry, GIS, numeracy, literacy and data handling skills.The programme involves a combination of lectures, seminars and practical experience which will provide you with a detailed understanding of how pupils learn and equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to develop as creative and innovative teachers of Geography. Here at Bangor, we will ensure that you have the qualities needed to not only be an outstanding Geography teacher, but also a teacher of Humanities, by giving you the opportunity to explore other aspects of the Humanities Curriculum, so that you are fully prepared to meet the needs of the new Curriculum for Wales. Bangor is a fantastic place for anyone interested in outdoor activities. Our location, combined with our long-established links with local outdoor education providers, provides a fantastic opportunity for combining this subject with outdoor activities during your training.
