Course summary
German thought has had a profound impact on philosophy, culture and science, with many of the most influential European thinkers emerging from the German-speaking world, such as Leibnitz, Kant, Hegel, Marx, Wittgenstein, Arendt, Husserl, and Heidegger. Through intensive study of German language and culture, this programme will enable you to read and appreciate the German source texts in the original language, and with an excellent understanding of the cultural context. Uniquely in Scotland, studying at Edinburgh enables you to take a full year abroad as part of your four-year undergraduate programme, either studying, teaching or working. You'll therefore spend Year 3 in a country where German is spoken.
