Course summary
The Global Development MRes is a pre-doctoral training version of the MA in Global Development. Explore the connections (and disconnections) between countries of the Global North and the Global South. Consider alternative future possibilities for international development, combining thinking on development, economic geography, political economy, labour studies and social change.
- A pre-doctoral training programme taught in conjunction with the London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (LISS DTP)
- This MRes is an approved pathway for ESRC funding, enabling students to apply for ESRC 1+3 funding to cover the MRes and a PhD
- Gain a detailed understanding of development practices and experiences within different sites and spaces of the Global North and South
- Develop field-based research skills through a field trip to Mumbai or Malaysia
- An MA version of this course is also available
Facilities
- Geospatial analysis, remote sensing and environmental modelling software and computing facilities
- Field equipment and laboratory facilities to analyse environmental samples, the River Laboratory, a micromorphology and micropalaeontology suite and a luminescence dating laboratory
- Learning resources and libraries at Queen Mary, the University of London and other collections such as the British Library
Career paths
Our students have gone on to undertake roles in governmental and non-governmental organisations, civil society, and academic research. This course is ideal if you want to go on to further doctoral research training through the LISS DTP Programme.
