Course summary

Our BA Global Studies with Politics (including foundation year) will be suitable for you if your academic qualifications do not yet meet our entrance requirements for an undergraduate course, and you want a programme that takes you to the right academic level as well as improves your English language and academic skills. This four-year course includes a foundation year (Year Zero), followed by a further three years of undergraduate study. You will be taught by our expert staff from your very first year enabling you to choose from a variety of specialist options. Conflict between nations; globalisation; political economies; cultural differences and how democracy operates all shape the environment we live in. The modern world faces many challenges and at Essex we approach these issues from a truly global perspective. Studying topics like the war on terror, international relations, political power and migration, our course gives you an excellent basis for a career in media, education, politics, the Civil Service, international organisations such as the UN and many other fields. Our staff in our Department of Government are advising the CIA on counter-terrorism, training politicians and civil servants in democratising countries and commentating on political events in national and international media – meaning you'll be taught by academics who really know their stuff. You will also be taught by academics in our Interdisciplinary Studies Centre, giving you access to experts from across the humanities and social sciences.
