Course summary

Course overview

Whether you wish to enter practical farming or pursue a commercial or administrative post, this intensive course covers all bases, with graduates carving out successful careers as farm managers, agricultural consultants, research officers and more.

You will acquire a detailed knowledge of the UK agricultural industry by exploring a plethora of issues including plant nutrition, crop growth and development, animal genetics, breeding, accounting, record keeping and budgeting.

Teaching

The course may be studied one day a week (Tuesday) over one or two years and entails three modules, with the addition of practical skills training at the John Oldacre Rural Innovation Centre to further enhance your employability.

You will participate in lectures, farm walks and visits, case studies, assignments, and management projects, while a summer study tour will expose you to a variety of agricultural enterprises.

Prospective students are strongly encouraged to complete pre-course reading in order to secure a minimum basic knowledge of agriculture and to highlight possible areas of weakness.
