Course summary
In this digital age, Animation and Graphic Design go hand in hand. From film and advertising to websites and social media, these disciplines co-exist across different media channels including digital, print and moving image. On this course you will: * Explore a range of processes including: film editing, photography, 3D modelling, motion graphics, creative coding, typography, branding and user-experience design. * Be part of our unique studio culture that encourages you to collaborate with students from other disciplines including artists, photographers and designers across the school; we call this transdisciplinary teaching. * Experiment to see what’s possible, so we encourage you to try new things and take risks. You’ll also use industry standard software and build your knowledge of professional design processes, including an opportunity to attain Adobe Accreditation. Our approach closely aligns itself with creative industry practices, it also encourages innovation through collaboration, which will enhance your prospects when applying for an optional industry placement. The ambitions and ethos of this course are championed by our students, staff, graduates and industry partners. It’s vital that you understand how Graphic Design, both static and animated, works in the wider world, so we work with a range of communication theories and diverse guest speakers, giving you the chance to understand the factors shaping the future of Graphic Design. My time at the University of Huddersfield has been amazing, with my final year being such a great experience. The support from tutors as well as the facilities on campus have allowed me to develop and refine my final major project into the best piece I have created so far. ~ Angela Jones, Graphic Design and Animation BA(Hons), 2019 graduate. Professional links and accreditation: During this course you can benefit from the opportunity to gain the Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) (https://www.adobe.com/uk/) accreditation in addition to your degree, at no extra cost. This is a globally recognised accreditation awarded by one of the leading software package providers to the creative industries, so could be valuable in your professional career. This accreditation is attractive to a number of employers and so it could give you a competitive edge in the job market. To be awarded the ACA accreditation, you’ll need to pass an online test. Additional Costs: You will need to cover the cost of printing your work during the course. You’ll also need to supply your own materials, which may include sketchbooks, pens, specialist papers, sculpting materials and specialist tools. The approximate cost of these items in recent years has been £100 in the first year, £200 in the second year and £200 to £500 in the final year. We also recommend that you purchase a hard-drive in order to back up your work throughout the course.
