Course summary
**Graphic design is about communicating to inform, educate, entertain, and persuade.** BA (Hons) Graphic Design at AUB emulates this and is designed to provide a dynamic, student-centred, broad-based graphic design learning experience that incorporates both academic understanding and vocational relevance to mould the next generation of Graphic Designers. The course encourages you to question how meanings are made by users and audiences from the range of material and conceptual resources associated with graphic artefacts, recognising that there are social, cognitive and embodied processes involved in acts of graphic communication. These material and conceptual resources are continually changing together with the tools used in making and disseminating graphic products. As a graphic designer, you’ll have to make decisions in complex and unpredictable situations. You’ll have to react quickly to new information, evolving briefs and advances in technology. **What you will learn**On the course you’ll learn to innovate under pressure and handle issues such as user-centred design, sustainability, emerging technology, service design, information design and interactive design. You will discover your own approach to visual problem solving and graduate with the technical, critical, and conceptual skills, highly prized by industry. You will engage with leading design companies who set briefs, give talks and help us to develop the curriculum. Experimentation and discovery are important values on this course. There’s no ‘right answer’ and you’ll be supported to find your own path as you learn more skills. As well as developing creative design strategies, we encourage you to bring your own experiences and interests to your work. We value conceptual approaches that attract attention, and then evoke an idea or emotion that is relevant and on target. We aim to continue to produce confident, enquiring graduates who are able to undertake further study, or pursue careers in fields related or loosely related to graphic design practice.Approximately 45% of your time will be contact hours, including scheduled teaching sessions, but also supervised time in the workshop or studio. 100% of assessment for this course is coursework based.**By the end of the course you will be able to...**- Evidence comprehensive, practical and theoretical knowledge and understanding of graphic design within relevant contexts.- Identify defined aspects of the discipline and specialise within the field of graphic design.- Work independently and apply knowledge, skills and understanding appropriately.- Self and peer appraise to manage and reflect on learning.- Evidence critical and analytical understanding and awareness through practical and theoretical work.- Evidence effective problem-solving, research, communication and presentation skills.- Successfully realise visual, creative and aesthetic solutions.- Be confident, informed and proactive.- Pursue career opportunities and post graduate study.
