Course summary

Whether experienced in the health and social care sector or not, this popular Foundation Degree will develop your skills and knowledge of social care through a blend of work-based learning and classroom teaching. This course provides you with a sound and critical understanding of health and social care policy, theory and practice, as well as the skills you need for effective practice in a diverse, multidisciplinary environment. You will also learn how ethical, legal, social, economic and political factors influence the provision and development of services. In Year 2 alongside your degree studies, you can be assessed against the National Occupational Standards, culminating in the achievement of a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care if you do not already hold this qualification. If you already possess a Level 3 vocationally-related qualification you will be able to undertake alternative CPD Units.On completion of the Foundation Degree you may decide to top-up to the full BA Hons) at the University Centre Somerset. Alternatively, the qualification will open up a variety of career paths in the health and social care sectors and give you the potential to work in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
