The roles range from working with people to support positive lifestyles and better well being, through to tackling health inequalities where people don’t all begin life with the same prospects. If you’re passionate about people and wellbeing, you can study to play your part in providing support for people of all ages and backgrounds, and be part of helping communities move towards better wellbeing.This engaging, values-led degree programme provides you with the skills and holistic understandings needed to excel in a multidisciplinary, community based, environment. Over three years, you explore the variety of agencies, groups of people and individuals engaged in promoting health and wellbeing.Our diverse and supportive staff team will help you to study relevant ideas such as conceptualising health and wellbeing, social networks and capital, sustainability in community links and resources, and inclusion and exclusion. Staff are actively engaged in health and wellbeing research, ensuring you benefit from the latest learning and outlook on health, community and wellbeing issues.The course draws on ideas from public health, health education, health awareness, community working and the range of approaches to supporting wellbeing in communities, from art therapy to green gyms.The Foundation Year (first year of study) gives you the chance to commence your studies with us if you have not quite achieved the degree qualifications required or if you feel you would benefit from the opportunity to develop your study skills and subject knowledge prior to embarking on your degree. Through a range of engaging, small-group lessons and practical placements, you will be equipped with the academic, professional and personal skills to help you succeed at university. Modules will cover broad topics as well as an introduction to your chosen subject area. You will also have the opportunity to study alongside students undertaking a range of degree programmes.In Year 1, you study modules focused on health, social care and community as well as Models of Wellbeing and Global Issues in Community Health.Year 2 introduces new modules on Community and Change, Emotional Health and Wellbeing, Lifespan Development, and Researching Wellbeing.Your final year features compulsory modules in Public Health in the 21st Century, Exploring Behaviour Change and Lifestyle, Developing Healthy Communities and Funding and Commissioning. Having built up an understanding of the core research methods and taught modules, you undertake a dissertation on a topic of your choice; this is a significant piece of independent research supported by expert supervision.We envisage health and wellbeing will be a growing area of employment as a more mixed economy of providers emerges, and as the sector moves towards preventative approaches as outlined by the Health and Social Care Act 2012 and Care Act 2014.Armed with excellent communication, negotiation and leadership skills, our innovative programme is designed to prepare you for a wide range of roles related to health, wellbeing.
