Course Overview:

The Higher Level Apprenticeship programme is widely recognised as the best combination of on the job training and higher level study.

This programme enables employees to undertake a Level 5 Foundation Degree in Civil Engineering validated by Ulster University. The programme is delivered part time day release - one day and evening per week over three years.

This course is designed to prepare you for a range of technical and management careers in the Civil Engineering, Infrastructure, Environmental Engineering and Built Environment sectors. The course will prepare you for either employment in the industry with design consultants, on site with contractors or with statutory organisations. It may also enhance promotion prospects for those already in employment; or provide entry into degree courses in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or Environmental Engineering.

The programme provides the skills to work in a challenging and rewarding industry on a range of projects, e.g. highways, transportation, water and waste, building structures and renewal energies.

Subject content will include:

Civil Engineering Technology; Introduction to Surveying; Civil Engineering Computer Aided Design & Emerging Technology; Mathematics 1; Science & Materials; Structural Mechanics; Communication; Geology & Soil Mechanics; Measurement and Costing; Fluids & Hydraulics; Structural Analysis & Design; Civil Engineering Contracts Management; Civil Engineering & Digital Surveying; Mathematics 2; Work-based Learning.

UK - 48 UCAS Tariff points at A-Level, together with a minimum of 5 passes at GCSE Grade C or above, which must include Maths and English Language; OR BTEC Extended Diploma in a relevant area of study (including GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English Language); OR University approved equivalent.
