Course summary

Course Overview:

You will undertake the Level 5 Diploma in Playwork (NVQ)(QCF) which has been developed specifically for learners who are developing, leading and reviewing permanent or temporary play provision within a changing environment. The course consists of 10 units: 5 are knowledge based only and will involve written assignments. The other 5 will require students to be assessed in the workplace in order to demonstrate occupational competence.

  • Engage in personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings Understand the principles and theories underpinning Playwork provision
  • Understand how to work with colleagues and other key partners to develop an organisational framework for children and young people’s play
  • Understand how to establish and develop working relationships to support children and young people’s play
  • Understand how to develop, manage and review operational plans for play provision
  • Understand how to research, design and facilitate possibilities for children and young
  • people self-directed play
  • Work with colleagues and other partners to develop an organisational framework for play
  • Develop, manage and review operational plans for play provision
  • Establish and develop working relationships to support children and young people’s play
  • Research, design and facilitate possibilities for children and young people’s self-directed play

You can progress into employment as: managers or development officers in playwork settings,
trainers/lecturers or choose further learning at Foundation Degree or Degree level.
