**Why History and Politics?**Our History and Politics degree enables you to develop as an active scholar and become an independent practitioner, researcher and critical thinker. You’ll explore fundamental and highly relevant issues of power and human value, studying the ideas and events that shape our world and our identities. You’ll build investigative, analytical research and communication skills essential to your future professional role, gaining invaluable practical experiences through work placements, research projects, field trips and opportunities to study abroad. Previous students have undertaken unforgettable visits to the USA, Canada, India and Spain, as well as to fascinating UK destinations.You’ll draw on the expertise of our academic team along with insightful guest speakers and the practitioners you’ll work with on projects and placements, benefitting from our links with museums, archives, heritage organisations, socio-political groups, businesses and other partners. Our course also allows you to tailor your studies to suit your own interests and ambitions, choosing the topics most important to you in a rich and varied curriculum, as you examine integral questions about democracy, protest, activism and authority. Subjects include gender and environment, politics and empire in the age of Gladstone and Disraeli, human rights in global perspective, fascism in Europe 1914 to 1945 and much more.
