Why this course?The BA in History at the University of Strathclyde allows students to sharpen their critical thinking, communication and research skills while exploring the most fascinating and rich periods of the past.A diverse portfolio of modules includes early modern Scotland, colonial India, medicine and warfare, Cold War Africa, the birth of modern Japan, conflict in the Middle East, the consequences of industrialisation and 20th century Czechoslovakia.Our staff have an infectious passion for their chosen fields, encouraging lively and stimulating discussion in seminars. They value diverse perspectives, creating a learning environment where students feel comfortable expressing their ideas and challenging conventional wisdom.Students can choose to explore the history of topics such as empire, genocide, madness, medicine and disease through a critical lens. You will gain valuable insight into the roots of contemporary issues in society and arm yourself with the knowledge to address similar challenges in the future.Study with usdelve into the rich tapestry of human history and better understand the events, forces and individuals that have shaped our worldgain a solid understanding of captivating historical topics – from colonialism’s international impact to the tumultuous ideological conflicts of the 20th centuryexplore subjects including disease, empire, genocide, madness and medicine through the prism of historical analysislearn to think like a historian and familiarise yourself with historiography: the history of historical analysis and writingreceive training in methods used by historians including interrogating sources, constructing bibliographies, building research plans and writing historical prose get practical experience via a work placement.Part-time study: available.
