Course summary

This is a combined honours course, where you study History of Art alongside Sociology. Our History of Art course enables you to combine the study of artistic creativity with a wide range of academic skills. You acquire a broad knowledge of Western art between the 15th and 20th centuries as well as more detailed knowledge of specific periods. Oxford has outstanding resources in its museums and galleries, including the Ashmolean Museum and Christ Church Picture Gallery. Final-year students also have access to the world-renowned Bodleian Library and the history-of-art-focused Sackler Library. Tutors are active researchers with strong reputations and are regularly involved with major exhibitions. Sociology studies human social life, groups and societies. A wide-ranging subject, it analyses social relationships and social institutions, and the ways in which they shape people’s lives. Sociologists focus on many topics, ranging from global social processes to changing identities and personal relationships. Studying sociology will increase your knowledge and understanding of the social world in the 21st century. Our flexible course allows you to pursue your own areas of interest within the subject.
