Course summary

History at Ulster covers the period from early modern era to the 20th Century. You are given the opportunity to select from a broad range of modules that cover Ireland, Britain, the Americas, and Europe. Political, social, economic, and cultural history are given due weighting in a programme which offers unique modules in areas of study as diverse as witchcraft and labour history. Modules are taught by experts with proven track records of research in their field, and the course is designed to give you the skill sets to be successful in a wide range of careers.

If you are interested in teaching as a career you may decide to add Education to your degree ‘mix’ at undergraduate level before applying for a Postgraduate Certificate in Education after you have completed your degree. Each Education module usually involves a two hour lecture plus a one hour seminar each week. In addition, you will have the opportunity for undertaking directed independent learning, which will enhance your potential for self-motivated study. Graduates from this course are employed in many different roles. Here are some examples: Banking; Civil Servant; Librarian; Retail Management; Teacher; Teaching English as a Foreign Language; Trainee Accountant.
