Course summary
Studying human physiology at the University of Leeds gives you an ideal opportunity to train in a medically-orientated field of world-wide importance, ideal if you have an interest in medical industries, research, or practice.Through research in academic or clinical settings, you'll consider what happens when normal physiological mechanisms go wrong, and how conditions such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases develop. Our integrated Masters (MBiol) offers you an additional year of specialist training, to study advanced research topics and undertake your own extended research project. You will be able to make an impact with this degree as human physiology is the study of how our body works in health and disease, and is a key component of the scientific basis of clinical medicine, as key as anatomy is to surgery. Our approach is integrated, understanding the organs of the body down to the molecular mechanisms within cells. If you're unsure as to what physiology is and what it involves, this video by The Physiological Society explains in under 3 minutes.**Course highlights:**- A wide range of modules with our integrative approach that are informed by on-going research in the Faculty, including introduction to physiology, human endocrinology, cardio-respiratory physiology and pharmacology, medical immunology, and chemotherapy.- Gain hands-on experience in taking physiological measurements from human subjects in practical classes, including the use of our environmental chamber.- Develop key practical, analytical and communication skills to enable you to analyse and present scientific data.- Current global challenges that are relevant to human physiology include sedentary lifestyle impacts on health, healthy ageing, and understanding and treating non-communicable human diseases.
