Course summary
This MSc combines an in-depth understanding of human resource management (HRM) with a broader exploration of its organisational and management context. The programme explores HR strategy both within organisations and in relation to the external environment. You will be exposed to the latest contemporary research in HRM to develop your critical thinking skills, develop and apply them.
Course overview
The programme is international by design. Many different cultural contexts will provide the setting for discussions. You will learn by working with others and building on your experiences and those of your fellow students.
You will explore issues including employee relations and employee engagement, learning and development, employee resourcing and talent management, globalisation and international forces, social and technological change and government policies and regulation.
A distinctive element of the programme is the opportunity to gain professional accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Professional Development (CIPD) alongside the academic award. This programme:
- Develops the skills essential for HR work such as leading and working in teams, making decisions, managing financial information, communicating effectively and helping others to learn.
- Places a strong emphasis on practice-based learning. You will be asked to evaluate research and theory and consider its relevance to practice.
- Develops academic and research skills such as assessing information and critically evaluating its relevance preparing you for higher level study.
- Supports the skills needed to operate effectively and competently in an international context.
- Uses assessment methods which mirror organisation-based activities.
- Provides a supportive platform for critical reflection, through the application of academic theories to real work situations.
