Course summary

COURSE INFORMATION

This course will introduce learners to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and enable them to understand how PLCs are applied to control industrial processes.

Learners will explore coding, rather than the wider aspects of software development and learners will gain foundation knowledge of, and skills in, writing short programs for a variety of purposes, using contemporary high-level programming languages, such as Python or C.

Learners will also develop knowledge and understanding of interfacing engineering systems with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and writing programmes to operate the interfaced engineering systems including the opportunity to examine the use of programmable logic controllers as a tool to aid fault finding in industrial systems.

Finally, learners will be equipped with knowledge and understanding of the main elements of robotic systems and the factors influencing their selection for general industrial applications.

FURTHER STUDY

Subject to successful completion the course, you may progress onto the HNC Computer Aided Drafting & Design or other progression routes as appropriate to experience and entry requirements.
