Course summary
**About This Course**Ever wondered how successful communication transcends cultural and linguistic barriers? Ever considered how global companies manage their diverse workforce? On this course you’ll discover how important global communication and intercultural awareness are today for individuals and businesses. You’ll challenge yourself and the cultural stereotypes that create barriers to successful communication. You’ll develop your understanding of how global businesses manage workforces with widely differing languages, values, and business practices. You’ll also be able to put to the test your skills by spending a semester abroad. You’ll be taught alongside other UK, EU and international students, enhancing your linguistic and intercultural communication skills. You’ll also be able to start, or improve your fluency in, another language. You’ll graduate ready to work in a range of fields, or to deepen your learning with further study. **Overview**Intercultural awareness is perhaps more crucial now than ever. For example, how will we respond to the mass migration of refugees fleeing Syria, or global relations after Brexit? How can we tackle the rise of open racism or the possible effects of isolationism on our international reputation? On this degree you’ll have the chance to study a developing subject area based on real life experiences and skills. You’ll work with experts in the field of intercultural communication to explore key global challenges. You’ll consider how we can break down barriers to successful communication within business, communities, education and politics. You’ll study communication theory, intercultural competencies, and the application of these within business. You’ll also be continuously engaging with the world outside of the university. You’ll work with local organisations to develop real-world skills and hone the qualities needed to succeed in multinational corporations, SMEs, NGOs, or the charity sector. **Disclaimer**Course details are subject to change.
