Course summary
During this course students will develop their own visual language and develop their personality as an interior designer.
During the three year course, students will research, investigate and evolve ideas surrounding the creation, rehabilitation and reimagining of new and existing buildings and spaces.
Assessment
Students will be continually assessed through preparation of written and project work. Assessment in the final year is through dissertation and portfolio.
Key study topics
Working with contemporary technologies in the design studio and workshops, students will explore design boundaries, balance style and function.
They will also have the opportunity to examine user experience and consider the importance of sustainability.
Key study topics include:
- Exploration in new interior/architectural design and the re-making of existing spaces
- Architectural study tours abroad, looking at contemporary design
- Opportunities to take part in international events and competitions
- Live project opportunities
- Parametric and computer-generated design at the cutting edge
- Latest techniques for designing structures and rapid prototyping
- Architectural and interior history, theory and context
- Business enterprise for design and regulatory frameworks
- New developments in the reuse of existing buildings design
- New developments in interior architecture/design projects around the world
Careers
This course will open the door to a range of career possibilities across new built environments and the rejuvenation and repurposing of existing buildings.
Interior architecture graduates often go on to design the rehabilitation and extension of existing buildings, or the creation of new built environments. Students can find themselves working in architectural and urban consultancy, workplace design, housing research, and retail planning or community development.
