Course summary

At the School of International Development, our research is internationally renowned. You will be taught by academic staff who are actively involved in research across the globe, working with many national and international development agencies. Our research commitments keep our lecturers in touch with development issues at a grassroots level and ensure your teaching sessions benefit from the very latest thinking. This course offers career-focused professional training, delivered by people with first-hand development experience, in a department at the cutting edge of development policy and practice. The course will equip you with the practical skills and knowledge you need to build a successful career, helping you to achieve your ambitions, whether that be running a grassroots campaign or a humanitarian response and whether that be in the private, government or non-profit sectors. You will learn what it takes to run an advocacy campaign, deliver a health services project, or manage a small charity or an evaluation team, becoming familiar with key planning, management, monitoring, evaluation and communication tools. You will then have the opportunity to develop the skills and techniques you have learned in a real life setting through a development work placement. Not only will this contextualise and ground what you have learned, but it will also boost your employability and help you reflect on your own positioning within the sector. You’ll graduate with the specialist and practical skills you need for a successful career in the UK or overseas. Many of our graduates work in development, including roles in the United Nations World Food Programme, British Red Cross, UK and foreign governments, non-government organisations and charities like Oxfam. Others use the academic and transferable skills gained for careers in business, the voluntary and public sector, activism and campaigning, community development, environment, and media. Alternatively, you could go on to further study.**Year abroad**This course includes an option to spend your third year studying abroad before returning to UEA for your final year. You can choose from a broad range of partner universities across Europe, the US, Canada, Latin America, Africa, Asia and Australia. All Study Abroad options will provide you with valuable insights and practical experience in a different country, and a chance to develop personal skills that are welcomed by employers.**Disclaimer**Course details are subject to change.
