Course summary
The finance and banking sector continues to be a major driver in economic output and growth across the world – from established financial centres like London, New York and Tokyo, to new, dynamic hubs for the industry, in places like Dubai, Seoul and Mumbai. With these centres spread across the globe, a career in the sector can now be increasing global, with staff for major firms moving between offices and markets with increasing regularity.Focused on giving you the opportunity to explore finance and banking in a global context, this course could help prepare you for an exciting career in the sector, either working for a major bank, financial institution or in other wider finance-related fields. As part of that preparation, the course provides you with the opportunity to study modules dedicated to improving your employability skills.Modules studied cover core finance modules, such as International Financial Markets or Quantitative Analysis for Finance, alongside relevant banking modules, such as Risk Management in Banking and Banking Regulation. There are also modules which cover other areas that could be necessary to develop the knowledge needed for a career in the financial sector, such as Investment Analysis, and modules that focus on new and growing areas, such as Financial Technology (FinTech) and Behavioural Finance. With a focus on applying your learning to practical situations, the course could help you develop the skills needed to progress into a career in the sector. Through using industry standard financial databases, such as Bloomberg, on our Trading Floor, you will have the opportunity to put theory into practice and develop your employability skills. This application of knowledge to practical situations is furthered by the module Applied Banking Case Studies which sees you tackle real world problems through case studies, that cover major firms in the industry.**Key Course Benefits**- Modules developed by academic staff with professional experience in the finance and banking industry.- An employability focus, with modules dedicated to trying to improve your employability skills in a finance and banking context through mock interviews or dummy assessment centres (subject to availability).- Course content informed by research conducted by the Centre for Financial and Corporate Integrity, based within Coventry Business School.- Opportunity to gain hands on experience of market leading financial databases in our Trading Floor, currently one of the largest academic trading floors in Europe.- Two modules (depending on entry level) focused on Financial Technology, a growing area of importance within finance and banking – covering topics such as cryptocurrencies, challenger banks and the usage of blockchain technology.- Study at Coventry Business School, which was ranked ‘Excellent’ by Eduniversal, an annual ranking of business schools, in 2018.
