Course summary
**OVERVIEW**There are endless opportunities in the international hospitality industry. Restaurants, Bars, Cruise industry, Events industry, Tourism, Contract Catering and the Hotel Industry. What’s more, much of the knowledge, skills and operational experience gained in these sectors can pave the way for a career in Business, Marketing, Human Resource Management and Finance. You’ll start preparing for your career on day one. During induction week, you’ll learn about the exciting opportunities ahead. Placements, volunteering, events – there are lots of ways to make your CV stand out if you’re prepared to make the most of them.We designed this course alongside our industry partners to make sure it delivers what employers are really looking for. Those same partners will be involved throughout your studies – from judging entries in competitions to giving talks on the latest issues.**Opportunities in Manchester and beyond**We’ve packed our programme with valuable experiences to add to your portfolio. Like our second-year competition, with the winners attending the EMCup in Maastrich to compete against hospitality students from 40 European universities. Our industry partners are always visiting us to give talks or looking for students to work with them at events or on placement. You could shadow the event coordinator for a 600-person ball at The Principal. Or work with the HR team at Hotel Gotham. Or the finance team at the Lowry. The only limit is how much time you can spare!**Academia meets the real world**We make sure you get a good mix of classroom work and practical sessions. One day you might be learning about operations in a lecture, the next you might be on a tour of a kitchen with the head chef. There are plenty of opportunities to learn practical skills. Take our food product development lab, for example. Here you’ll learn all about menus, food waste and sustainability, and the cost implications of homegrown vs bought-in products.**Choose a placement or study abroad**The course offers real flexibility as you will enrol on the three-year course and then decide if a placement or overseas study is right for you once you have started your studies. You don’t have to decide now. If you opt to undertake a placement or study abroad your course will normally be four years full-time.FEATURES AND BENEFITS- **Highly ranked in the UK** – we’re ranked 9th in the Complete University Guide 2021 for Hospitality, Leisure, Recreation and Tourism subjects and are in the top 10 in The Guardian University Guide 2020.- **Triple crown** – study in a Business School that has prestigious triple accreditation from EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA.- **Industry links** - we developed the course with lots of input from industry – and our partners will be involved throughout your studies.- **Test your skills** - take part in competitions including the BII awards, the EMCup and the HOTS competition where you’ll manage a virtual business.- **Engage on an international level** - take advantage of our international links with organisations like American Hotel Academy (Romania) or International Management Institute (Switzerland).- **A city of opportunities** - get involved in Manchester’s thriving hospitality industry with our mentor scheme and volunteering opportunities.- **Get a global insight from your peers** - learn from our experienced international team and study alongside students from all over Europe and the rest of the world.
