Course summary

Overview

The International Human Resource Management MSc is a fully online, part-time programme designed to equip managers, HR professionals and those seeking a career in HR with the intellectual, learning and professional skills they need to make an outstanding contribution within their organisation. The University of Liverpool Management School is one of an elite group of institutions worldwide to hold a gold standard triple accreditation from AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. The programme will assist in developing important senior management skills, including strategic thinking, evidence-based decision making and practical skills, that can help take you to the next career level.

In a dynamic, fast-changing and diverse environment, managing people requires practitioners who can continually learn and adapt professional and organisational knowledge to new needs and contexts. Organisations of all sizes, whether global or local, increasingly need to be able to operate in an international and globalised environment and be able to effectively manage and develop people within such an environment.

The curriculum blends core HRM skills such as managing performance, learning and development, change and conflict, with core business skills which are tailored to the needs of HR practice, including leadership, data and financial management, marketing and business ethics, sustainability, and CSR.

The programme will consider the international dimensions and implications of all core HRM practices and their impact on business functions, including the complexities of managing people across multiple countries, legislative frameworks and cultures, management of expat staff and workforce diversity.

Students will be able to combine a focus on practice, with their current or previous workplace and organisational experience and the critical management scholarship of an elite AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS accredited Management School.

Why study this subject?

On completion of the programme, you will have gained insight into contemporary issues regarding the global and local nature of Human Resource Management.

During your studies, you will develop the key skills and attributes necessary to develop a career in international Human Resource Management, able to effectively engage with and influence your organisation as a Human Resource Management champion.

You will also have an opportunity to work with and learn from an international, diverse cohort of managers and practitioners, creating or extending your professional network as a community of learner-practitioners.

Methods of assessment

Assessment is exclusively through online activities carried out in the VLE. You will be assessed through a range of activities, including discussion forum participation, practical assessment and group work.

Practical assessment adopts the principle of authentic assessment where the tasks undertaken are aligned with what students would be expected to undertake in a professional setting.

Career destinations

Graduates of the programme will be able to advance an existing career in Human Resource Management, move into a HRM role, or enhance a managerial career. You will also be well placed to pursue specialist career paths in areas such as learning and development, conflict resolution or recruitment. This could include positions on a worldwide scale for organisations such as multinationals, government bodies and major international retailers.

You will be equipped not only with knowledge and skills, but practical judgement, critical self-awareness and the ability to reflect on and learn from experience, making you highly desirable in a competitive global market.
