You can choose to specialise in adventure tourism and gain the skills and knowledge needed to manage and work in this dynamic and global sector.**How you learn**Studying at Sheffield Hallam enables your academic, personal and professional development. You develop the knowledge, attributes and skills desired by employers for highly skilled employment. You learn from current developments in the international tourism and hospitality industries, often including your lecturers' research. You also develop research skills and digital skills, which will help you to work and study more effectively. You enhance your professional skills by working with employers through consultancy projects and reflecting on your performance.Your learning will take place through a variety of methods such as- lectures- seminars- practical workshops in world-class facilities- research projects- real-life consultancy experience- directed learning activities outside classes- diverse assessment tools (e.g. essay, presentation, report, e-portfolio, exam- guest speakers and field tripsThere are opportunities to study abroad at one of our partner universities with the possibility of funding through the Erasmus programme (subject to the UK’s continued participation in the Erasmus programme following the Brexit transition period).**Applied learning****Work placements**This course offers a variety of opportunities to develop your employability skills for highly skilled employment in the international tourism and hospitality industries. You will have the opportunity to undertake a year-long work placement in your third year of study. This gives you a real-world experience to prepare you for your future career.Recent placements have included Disneyland in Florida, in hotels and resorts across America, Canada, Spain, France, Dubai and the Maldives, and with national and regional destination management organisations such as the Netherlands Board of Tourism and Conventions, the Isle of Man Department of Tourism, and Visit Peak District and Derbyshire, as well as for major tour operators such as TUI and Sunvil.You can also complete a 'Learning in the Workplace' semester where you work and study at the same time, with academic lessons carried out remotely during allocated study periods while on placement. This is recognised by the University as a placement and offers you a quicker way to complete your studies and gain work experience in 3 rather than 4 years, while graduating with 'placement' in your degree title to boost your employment prospects.**Live projects**As part of the course, you get the opportunity to work on real business projects to build your skills and professional experience. Recent students have contributed to developing the network of the UK Overseas Territories Conservation Forum, helped organise their annual conference in Gibraltar, and been involved in developing Operation Make Safe, which seeks to work with hotels, tour and transport operators to raise staff awareness of child protection issues.
