As one of Europe's most creative and diverse civilisations, Italy has a fascinating and influential history. On this programme you will study the Italian language in the context of Italian culture, and alongside politics. This includes issues such as the:* morality of political action* limits of freedom and justice* processes of governance within politics**Italian**Italian has been taught here since 1919, and has been part of our tradition for many years, as far back as the 18th century. No previous knowledge of Italian is needed. Intensive language tuition, including through a year spent studying or working in Italy, will develop your ability to read, write and speak the language to a high standard, including in translation.**Politics**Our programme covers a range of political systems, institutions, and processes.You will explore a variety of issues within:* politics* political theory* public theoryYou will also study international relations in Europe, Russia, Africa and the US.The skills you develop will allow you to understand and evaluate political issues and problems in the contemporary world. **Why Edinburgh?**We are unique in Scotland in offering students a full academic year abroad within the four-year honours programme, regardless of whether you spend the year studying or working.A capital and festival city, Edinburgh is the seat of the Scottish Parliament and also has an Italian consulate.
