**Course summary**- Develop critical insight into the theory and practice of teaching and foreign language acquisition.- Learn two languages and give yourself a head-start in the teaching sector.- Have the opportunity to study and work abroad and gain hands-on experience of the education environment – with the possibility of Erasmus funding being available to support costs for overseas study.- Gain understanding of the language, culture and economic context of your two target countries.This degree enables you to become proficient in the French language and to gain excellent understanding of the French culture, society and economic context. You will study a second foreign language, with German and Spanish offered from any starting point and Italian from beginner's level.**How you learn**Modules on the degree will focus on areas such as linguistics, second language acquisition, classroom management strategies and teaching techniques. You will have ample opportunity to work alongside foreign speakers of English, including through teaching practice.**You learn through**- seminars- problem solving exercises- teaching practice- individual and group presentations- directed learning activitiesThere are opportunities to study abroad at one of our partner universities with the possibility of funding through the Erasmus programme (subject to the UK’s continued participation in the Erasmus programme following the Brexit transition period).**Applied learningWork placements**You will have the opportunity to arrange a year-long work placement in between your second and third years. This gives you a real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. Your unique, compulsory time abroad is invaluable in terms of developing your employability and it will become a key differentiator when the time comes to apply for graduate positions. Through your study semester and teaching placement year overseas, you will be able to develop a global professional skills set, gain fluency in your foreign languages and as a result, become a highly employable individual.**Additional qualifications**If you are interested in teaching and want to achieve Qualified Teacher Status, you will be given the opportunity to opt-in on either the BA (Honours) Modern Foreign Languages with TESOL and QTS or the BA (Honours) Languages with TESOL and QTS, in the second or third year respectively. Admissions on opt-in courses will be subject to the standard QTS entry requirements, including literacy and numeracy tests, DBS checks and individual interviews.
