Study and work abroad for 18 months, developing transferable skills on an international level and giving you a competitive advantage upon graduation.**How you learn:**All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.The course is suitable if you don't meet the entry requirements for our BA (Hons) Languages with Tourism (Spanish) course, or you want extra preparation before starting degree-level study. You share the first year with other Sheffield Business School foundation year students, then move on to the degree.This course employs a variety of innovative learning and teaching methods within the vibrant, dynamic setting of Sheffield Business School, an internationally-recognised centre of teaching excellence which attracts students and academics from all over the world.You learn through:- a semester of overseas study in our European partner universities- an 11-month placement year abroad- lectures and seminars, with guest speakers- courses taught in the target language- independent study- presentations and group work- a variety of innovative teaching methods- state-of-the-art facilities at Sheffield Business SchoolIn the foundation year, you'll study wider business topics, while specialising in your chosen subject area. You'll learn useful skills such as academic writing, work in diverse teams and learn to utilise a wide variety of data sources. In doing so, you'll fully prepare yourself for undergraduate study.**Applied learning - Work placements**As part of your course you spend 11 months on a work placement in a relevant organisation based in one of the two languages you study. Your placement is a great opportunity to gain valuable international tourism experience. It helps you develop your skills and foreign language ability and significantly enhances your employability.You will have the opportunity to apply for placements with international companies such as the main Spanish hotel chains Meli Hotels International, Hotelbeds and Hoteles NH (HQ Madrid). We also have contacts with boutique hotel chains, tour operators and other relevant firms from the tourism sector.**Networking opportunities**We are proud of our links with our alumni and you have numerous opportunities to network with them. You will also have the chance to meet other students and professionals from across Europe on your placements.
