Course summary

Choose a small and friendly Law School which prides itself in supporting its students.Choose Bradford Law School, Bradford College University Centre. This is a challenging and rewarding Foundation Degree in Law and Legal Practice, accredited by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Bar Council . The course provides you with a route to legal practice, by combining academic aspects of law with more practical modules and work placements. Choose this Foundation Degree in Law and Legal Practice and upon successful completion proceed direct to the second year of the Bradford College University Centre LLB degree. This is a Foundation degree with significant academic content delivered with a vocational/practical twist. It is not just about learning legal principles but using that knowledge in a real world context. You will study a variety of modules including Contract Law, Public Law, English Legal Process, Family Law and Practice, Aspects of property law, Conveyancing, and Litigation (civil and criminal), to ensure that you experience a variety of legal areas and legal processes. Preparing you for your future career is our central concern and that preparation goes beyond the acquisition of legal knowledge to developing legal skills. As a result, you will undertake Work Placement modules in a legal or advice setting. Lawyers practice in a variety of organisations and not simply as solicitors and barristers. Trade Unions, financial and insurance institutions, media groups, advice organisations, charities, the police, NHS, and large businesses, may all have in-house legal teams or advisors. Work experience in such an arena will enable you to appreciate how laws are used in a practical setting, will develop your skills, and will look great on your CV. If that is not enough, we also encourage you to become authors (or co-authors with your tutors) publishing in our Law School and College journals. Why not write-up your work experience and publish it with us? Our focus is on working with our students and not creating overly big classes. We are a friendly and informal Law School which prides itself on supporting you, ensuring that you graduate with the knowledge and skills required to succeed, and ensuring that you have the opportunity to make yourself stand out from the crowd. On successfully completing the course you will have direct access to Year 2 of the LLB (Hons) degrees. Alternatively, you may consider entering the legal profession as a fee earner/ paralegal. It will also be a useful qualification for those wishing to enter employment in areas such as insurance work, probation service, local government which require knowledge of the legal and litigation processes. We look forward to welcoming you to Bradford Law School.*PLEASE NOTE - THIS PROGRAMME IS UNDERGOING PERIODIC REVIEW/REAPPROVAL IN THE 2019-20 ACADEMIC YEAR FOR DELIVERY FROM 2020-21. Periodic Review is a monitoring and review activity undertaken by all universities/colleges delivering HE programmes. Any changes to the existing programmes as a result of this process will be fully communicated to all applicants as soon as possible after conclusion of the reviews.
