Course summary

Combining the study of Law with Criminology leading to a Qualifying Law Degree gives you an opportunity to study in greater depth areas relating to the criminal justice system. Studies will relate to theories, policies, practice and important issues that are affecting the Law - studies that will be of value for graduates and for individuals who will later qualify as practising solicitors or barristers. Examples of the areas of Criminal Justice that relate to Law include policing, the sentencing framework, the function of the courts in England and Wales, housing and welfare matters, and issues relating to immigration and ethnic minority groups. A range of Criminal Justice modules is undertaken in conjunction with the compulsory modules in Law. Bangor University is recognised as a qualifying law degree provider by the Bar Standards Board and this degree is accredited by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. The Placement Year provides you with a fantastic opportunity to broaden your horizons and develop valuable skills and contacts through working in field relevant to your chosen degree subject. The Placement Year is taken between years 2 and 3 of your degree and students are away for the whole of the academic year. The minimum period in placement (at one or more locations) is seven calendar months; more usually you would spend 10-12 months with a placement provider. Placements can be UK-based or overseas and you will work with staff to plan and finalise the placement arrangements. You would normally start sometime in the period June to September of your second year and finish between June and September the following year. You will be supported throughout the placement period by a dedicated member of staff within your academic school.
