Course summary

Join our LLB (Hons) Law with Foundation programme and benefit from a foundation year specially designed to support you in developing all the essential skills for success in higher education. Are you ready to make your mark in the legal world? Combine theory and practice to prepare for a successful career. Build a deep understanding of how the law works and apply this in practice with the support of our experienced academic team, including trained and practicing solicitors. Volunteer in our on-campus multi-award winning Law Clinic, which provides free legal advice to those who need it most in the region. You’ll get the chance not only to shadow staff in the clinic but to run every aspect of it, giving back to the community while gaining invaluable professional experience. We've designed our degree to ensure you're prepared for the updated Solicitors Qualifying Exam. Our course also allows you to pursue training as a barrister, with our students regularly winning major Bar Scholarships from the Inns of Court.Unpack the legal aid system and its limitations in the South West and beyond or look at the experiences of women in the criminal justice system. Get a grounding in the fundamentals of law so you can set your sights high and help tackle some of society’s most pressing issues. You'll have the opportunity to graduate with work experience, making you stand out from your peers and leaving you ‘office ready’ thanks to the Law Clinic and work placements with organisations like Citizen’s Advice Bureau and Shelter. Local law firms tell us they look to recruit from Plymouth because of their experiences of working with our students. At Plymouth, your degree really is what you make it. From your second year, you can choose to add in modules from across the School of Society & Culture’s 17 disciplines. You can explore the political landscapes that shape Laws with a Politics module, gain insights into criminality with a module in Criminology or develop your voice skills for advocacy with a module in Acting. What our students think: “Whilst working in the law clinic, we had the opportunity to help those who needed it, and have been able to make a positive impact in difficult times. It was also a huge factor in helping me stand out when applying for jobs.” Alannah O’Neill, LLB (Hons) Law
