Course summary
**Foundation Year Year 1 of the course**Subject to validation by Leeds City CollegeThis foundation year helps prepare you for the LLB Hons if you do not have traditional academic qualifications or have not achieved the required grades. You will learn the basics of law and how this applies across society. The course will also develop the academic and study skills you need to complete a LLB Hons programme and succeed in any further study. An added advantage is that this course will allow students to meet the Law higher education teaching team and become comfortable with the teaching methods, assessment methods and the facilities. For example you will have the opportunity to experience assessment methods such as; presentations, group discussions, assignments, group assessments and an exciting opportunity to experience a moot. Upon completion of the foundation year students will progress on to the LLB Hons (Bachelor of Law with honors).**LLB (Hons)Year 2 - 4 of the course**Validated by The Open UniversityThe Bachelor of Law Degree has been designed so as to encompass modules which will assist work related skills and professional development skills, and modules which will allow for a Qualifying Degree status. In the final year, students can complete modules which will allow for dual qualification upon completion of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives Graduate Fast Track Diploma. A distinctive feature of the LLB programme is that students have the chance to complete their three year programme of study and be qualified to practice law as a Graduate Fellow of CILEX, in addition to the option for further study to qualify as a solicitor or barrister through the LPC or BPTC.The timing of the modules allows for coverage of the foundation law subjects in the first two years hence the Level 4 and Level 5 modules are all compulsory. At level 6, students have the opportunity to choose from a number of options that allow for specialisation, in addition to a compulsory dissertation. The aim of the degree is to develop the ability to appraise legal principles critically, to be logical and balanced in argument, to undertake research from legal sources, and to develop clear and fluent legal skills. The theoretical parts are complemented by more practical elements, including visits and moots and innovative forms of assessment that develop the vocational skills necessary for the practice of law. The transferable skills acquired are extremely valuable to employers and so beneficial when seeking work in the legal sector.
