Course summary

OVERVIEW

The Juris Doctor (JD) programme is a Professional Doctorate. It has a blend of taught, skills-based and research elements and is designed to provide our students with a world-class legal education, preparing them for the global and international environments in which they will be providing legal advice.

This three year programme delivers a primary law degree to graduates from a discipline other than Law which will provide them with the necessary professional exemptions to allow them to apply for the professional stages in Northern Ireland, England and Wales and those further jurisdictions which allow for application on the basis of a primary law degree, eg North America, Australia, Hong Kong.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Introduction

Graduates will hold a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD) which provides the necessary professional exemptions to allow holders to apply for the professional stage in numerous jurisdictions. Queen's postgraduates reap exceptional benefits. Unique initiatives, such as Degree Plus and Researcher Plus bolster our commitment to employability, while innovative leadership and executive programmes alongside sterling integration with business experts helps our students gain key leadership positions both nationally and internationally.

INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS: There is significant flexibility regarding start dates for postgraduate research programmes, subject to prior agreement with primary supervisor. Candidates should contact Admissions should they wish to revise their PhD programme start date.
