ABOUT THE COURSE

The course is designed to provide the theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding to successfully support aspiring and serving educational professionals in a critical engagement with research and in critical reflection on their practice. The course will promote a greater understanding of the social and cultural contexts that create notions of disadvantage and consideration will be given into ways in which schools can mitigate disadvantage and actively promote advantage.

Course Aims

  • Facilitate critical reflection and informed professional judgement on national policy initiatives and changing contexts related to teaching and leading in schools within disadvantaged contexts.
  • Allow critical understanding of sociological and psychological frameworks which apply to thinking about the design of school systems and cultures in disadvantaged settings.
  • Enable evidenced, effective and positive responses to a range of educational challenges arising in schools working in disadvantaged communities
  • The skills, knowledge and understanding to critically reflect on professional and leadership practices within an educational setting.

CAREERS

This is a professional learning course designed specifically to provide up-to-date knowledge support for professionals working to mitigate disadvantage in schools. The 60 Masters-level credits can also be used towards a Masters in Education.
