Course summary

This innovative course offers the unique opportunity to qualify as both a Nurse (Learning Disabilities) and a Social Worker (Generic). Through this dual qualification, you will gain the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to work across a range of health and social care settings, particularly with individuals with learning disabilities. Placements in diverse social care environments will also prepare you to meet the requirements for a generic Social Work qualification. The course meets all the requirements for the generic Social Work and Registered Nurse in Learning Disabilities qualifications. It acknowledges that people with learning disabilities may have both health and social care needs that require varying levels of support and intervention. The focus is on empowering, enabling, and promoting independence for individuals to address these needs within their communities.Half of your time will be spent on placements, guided by experienced practitioners. These placements will allow you to apply the theories of nursing and social work to real-world practice. You’ll demonstrate your competencies through direct work with individuals with learning disabilities, their families, and their communities. Upon graduation, you’ll be eligible to register with both the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a qualified nurse (learning disabilities) and with Social Work England as a social worker.

We are proud that our course ranks second in the UK for Social Work degrees in The Guardian University Guide 2024
