Legal Studies and Politics at Aberdeen combines close examination of the world of law – including topical and controversial issues – with exploration of national, European and global politics taught by highly-regarded experts who regularly comment in the media on events unfolding in the world today. You will gain a great foundation the perfect foundation for a wide range of careers, including politics, media and business, government service and many other fields.Legal Studies at Aberdeen gives you the benefit of studying a range of fascinating subjects in our highly-regarded Law School, established in the year 1495,
now ranked 12th in the UK out of more than 90 law schools and scoring an impressive 95% for student satisfaction.You won’t be accredited to enter the legal profession in Scotland (or England), but you will gain valuable knowledge of legal systems and important academic qualities that are greatly valued by employers. Among topics you can study are commercial law, Government and law, legal theory, European and international law, human rights, EU law, environmental law, criminology and criminal justice and Scottish legal history.In Politics, you will be right at the front of debate on current world events – including Britain’s relationship with the European Union and its neighbours on mainland Europe and movements of regionalisation within the UK. You will explore voting behaviour, different political systems, making and implementing policy, nationalism, concepts of democracy and ever-present concerns of conflict and peace.You can also take advantage of unique options made possible by the research pedigree of our academic team with a strong track record in publishing international papers and articles. The combination of intellectual skills that you will develop and their transferability will be a great foundation for a wide range of careers, including politics, media, business, government service, NGOs, charities and many other fields.
