Course Overview

This is a level 5 qualification in English Language Teaching to Adults. We offer a range of different types of CELTA courses to suit your personal schedules. These are:

two face-to-face part-time evening courses running for 17 weeks throughout the year, in the first semester from September-January and in the second semester from January-June.
two mixed-mode (face-to-face & online) courses running for 17 weeks throughout the year, in the first semester from September-January and in the second semester from January-June.
two fully online courses running for 17 weeks throughout the year, in the first semester from September-January and in the second semester from January-June.

This course is for you if you wish to enter the English Language Teaching profession or if you are already working in that field and want to acquire a formal qualification. This course will help you to:

develop familiarity with the principles of effective teaching
acquire a range of practical skills for teaching English to adult learners
improve your ability to analyse spoken and written language
gain experience of lesson and syllabus planning
prepare and evaluate resources and materials

You will also have the opportunity to:

observe experienced teachers
take part in professional development
complete 6 hours of assessed teaching practice

The course is composed of:

input sessions, which take place on Tuesday evening for face-to-face and mixed-mode CELTA, and Saturday morning or online for mixed-mode and online CELTA. Please contact us if you require more information about this.
assessed teaching practice with live students, which takes place on Thursday evening for all CELTA courses

You are also required to complete four assessed assignments throughout the course.

Classes are limited to 12 places per course.

All students are expected to do some background reading before and during the course. A reading list will be provided.

Entry Requirements
Essential:

A high standard of spoken and written English
At least 20 years old, although the Centre may consider applications from younger applicants if they are deemed suitable
2 GCE A-levels or the equivalent qualifications required for entry into higher education

English teaching experience is not a requirement.

Non-native speakers of English are welcome to apply if they satisfy the requirement of having reached a C1 level in English language.

Applications will be processed on a first come first served basis.

Suitably qualified applicants are invited for interview and asked to complete a pre-interview language task as well as a brief written task on the day of the interview.

Places are limited and will be offered to those candidates who it is felt are best equipped to complete the course successfully.

Where this course will take you

You will acquire the skills necessary to enter the profession of English language teaching. The Cambridge CELTA qualification is the most widely recognised in its field, both in the UK and Ireland as well as abroad.
