Course summary

This programme offers a broad foundation course in the humanities with the flexibility of distance learning study. The foundation programme delivers a mixture of study skills and subject-specific modules, so you can progress with your degree with the skills and confidence required for success.

On completion of the foundation year, you can continue on the broad liberal arts programme or specialise with one of our other humanities degrees, either as a distance-learning or residential student.

This programme offers the flexibility of being delivered via distance learning.

Course Overview

This Foundation Certificate provides an alternative route into higher education if you don’t have the traditional qualifications or cannot meet the entry requirements for an undergraduate degree.

It is an excellent way to develop your academic and professional writing skills, as well as to learn about how studying the humanities helps you to understand society.

The programme provides an introduction to studying at university with a focus on developing communication and research skills. In developing these skills, you have an option to study different aspects of how humanities subjects approach the human condition.

Career Opportunities

You will develop powers of analysis, logical thought and argument within a supportive and encouraging environment. It will be these skills of communication, understanding, analysis and self-management that provide you with a passport into employment. Types of employment could include museum and archive work, journalism, law, banking, local politics, all types of administrative work, marketing and advertising, and teaching.
