MA Education (Music Education)

Deepen your understanding of the theoretical and contextual issues related to your professional life as a music teacher on our flexible MA Education (Music Education).

This pathway is designed to be flexible to meet the needs of busy professionals and to reflect your own interests. At the Institute of Education, we recognise the uniqueness of every student and we address our teaching to suit your individual needs. This course is offered on both a full-time and part-time basis.

You will deepen your understanding of the theoretical and contextual issues related to your professional life as a music teacher, and evaluate aspects of your practice.

Based in our purpose-built music education department, you will complete modules which focus on musical leadership, choral education, music technology, assessment in music, and musical cognition. The programme's design enables you to benefit from a wide choice of generic modules that explore education and research, as well as specific musical interests.

You will be taught by a diverse and incredibly experienced community of academics, and benefit from the breadth of their expertise and backgrounds in educating and influencing policy.

Our teaching is interactive, experiential and innovative. We utilise a wide variety of technologies to enhance your learning, including making use of presentation tools, interactive whiteboards, mixed media, social media and mobile technologies in our teaching and screen capture in assessment.

This MA Education (Music Education) has provided students with an excellent foundation to doctoral studies in education, or for our successful part-time Professional Doctorate in Education (EdD).
