Course summary
Overview
This course is also available as an Extended Masters that helps International students adjust to studying in the UK.
The MA Film and Media Production offers a unique blend of practical production skills, professional knowledge and academic study as well as opportunities for you to become a researcher in your own right.
We have designed the course to be taught through a combination of intensive workshop sessions, online interactive and self-directed teaching, as well as group and individual tutorials. The programme provides intensive instruction in cinematography, camerawork, sound recording and design, non-linear editing, scriptwriting, producing and directing.
Why study MA Film and Media Production?
The MA Film & Media Production is practically based but it should not be seen only as a vocational preparation. It includes an important theoretical component that is related to the practical side of the programme; theoretical issues are explored through practice and in complimentary modules.
Who is the course for?
The MA Film and Media Production is of particular interest to graduates whose first degree has included some study of film and media production, but good honours degrees in other subjects, together with evidence of a serious interest in film and television, may also be appropriate.
The programme may also be of interest to professionals looking to augment their professional experience through specialised academic study or to develop their career prospects.
We are proud to work with students with varied protected characteristics, including age, disability, race, sex and sexual orientation, and aim to provide appropriate support for individual needs.
Your future career
Many graduates enter the media industries, frequently as trainees who will complete their technical training 'in-house.' The MA Film Production is also well suited to applicants who want to work as independent film makers or to go on to teach the subject.
Candidates who are already in the workplace will benefit from using their new-found qualification and confidence to progress their careers with their current employer, or to use it to secure promotions or new employment elsewhere. They can also use the qualification as a way to improve what they are undertaking within their current role.
Students completing this MA could also go on to further study or could undertake a teaching qualification to take their practice into a school, FE or HE environment.
