Course summary

This course run by former and current sports journalists, designed to prepare you for an exciting career in sports journalism. You will have the chance to develop the skills to report on local and national sports events and have the opportunity to broadcast and produce your own sports content on one of our campus-based media platforms. The programme’s work placement scheme gives you the opportunity to gain practical experience designed to help prepare you for a career in this sector. Previously, students have been able to draw on experience with BBC Sport and BBC Radio 5 Live, talkSPORT and ITV. Please note that students are responsible for their travel, accommodation and general living costs while undertaking a work placement. You may have the opportunity to hear from a number of guest speakers. Recent speakers have included BBC Director of London 2012 Roger Mosey, Controller of 5 Live Jonathan Wall, Editor of FourFourTwo David Hall and ITV commentator Clive Tyldesley.

The School of English and Journalism is one of the first institutions in Europe to be awarded a 'Recognised for Excellence' accolade by the European Journalism Training Association (EJTA). Career and Personal Development: This programme aims to prepare you for careers in print, broadcast and digital journalism and for roles in corporate communications and public relations. Recent graduates have gone on to work for BBC Sport, MUTV, worldfootball.net, talkSport, The Scotsman, the Irish Independent and Motor Sport magazine. Careers Services: The University Careers and Employability Team offer qualified advisors who can work with you to provide tailored, individual support and careers advice during your time at the University. Students will also achieve PGDip and PGCert.
