Course summary
ABOUT THE COURSE
Make an impact in your community and help develop the future of sport on this unique sport development programme. You'll build a strong grounding in the principles of sport policy and sport development. You'll be encouraged to put this into practice through work placement and volunteering opportunities with one of our many local partners.
Throughout the core modules, you’ll be encouraged to critically apply theories, concepts and frameworks in sport development and sport policy, as well as analyse key approaches to monitoring and evaluation for sport and health interventions.
Through debates and critical evaluation of the local, national and international context of sport and health, you’ll explore the role of sport in addressing broader social change outcomes, along with the role of physical activity in public health agendas.
Guest speakers, from industry, will be used to spark debate about the challenges in the sport and health sector. You’ll be encouraged to think critically about the complex reasons for inactivity, developing knowledge and empathy for inactive communities.
You’ll also be able to tailor the course towards your own specific career ambitions, selecting topics within modules and tailoring assessments accordingly. Research informed teaching is embedded at Solent and is a key element of the course curriculum on this master’s programme.
Students engage in contemporary issues facing practitioners and develop skills to address these.
