Course summary

Can the interests of employees and of organisations co-exist? What is the impact of the ‘gig economy’ on employee relations? What are the drivers behind communication, change and motivation? So much can be uncovered by delving into people’s behaviours and interactions with organisations and society.

This degree focuses on understanding humans – the way they work and how their behaviour can be influenced through people management practices. We won’t teach you how to become a manager. Instead, we will explore the perspectives of both employers and employees. Join us in challenging the assumptions behind human resources and how people are managed.

You will study management theory alongside psychology, sociology and history. Our teaching approach blends academic material with practical insights and exercises. You will be taught by academics who are tackling the big questions of the day such as Artificial Intelligence, ethnic and cultural diversity and technology.

In your first year you study Management and Organisational Behaviour, selecting two more subjects from either Social Sciences or the Management School.

In your second year you will study Human Resources Management and deepen your understanding by choosing from topics such as Managing People or Business Ethics.

The final year sees you selecting from options such as International Human Resource Management, Ethics and Sustainability, and Organisational Change.

This degree will give you a critical understanding of the complex world of work and organisations. If you are interested in how to create a happy, efficient workforce, this degree can put you on the path to a career in people management.

Careers

Our graduates enter a wide array of jobs and careers, from mainstream human resource management in both public and private corporations to management consultancy and roles in the media and marketing. Others set up businesses on their own, both at home and abroad.

The degree also opens up opportunities for further study, with recent graduates undertaking studies towards professional recruitment practice and Masters in Human Resource and Knowledge Management.
