Course summary
This highly practical, industry-focussed course for film makers, storytellers and creatives uses traditional and emerging technologies to create exceptional audience experiences. You develop skills in writing, recording, editing, directing and producing by exploring all aspects of film making and storytelling.In your first year, you study all three pathways: Film & TV Production, Story, Script & Development, Emerging Technology and Digital Performance. Experiencing a range of subjects gives you the opportunity to explore multiple disciplines before deciding what pathway to specialise in subsequently. This approach equips you with a broad range of skills to support a sustainable career. Students have generous studio access and by working in a multi-purpose multi camera film and TV studio, in our Motion and 3D/VR capture studio or the media edit lab, you learn using tools that the professionals use.You will work both independently and in collaboration with students from a wide range of other disciplines. You could be making a film using motion capture of a dancer, running an immersive gig for a band or projection mapping an outdoor event or stage production. Our wide-ranging professional network and staff active in the screen industry make sure that course content is relevant. We regularly host masterclasses with leading figures and visiting professionals keep us connected to industry needs. You graduate not only with a mixed-media portfolio but also experience and a professional network.**Course details****Pathway content examples: Film & TV Production**- Learn the core principles of using a camera to record drama, factual material and associated audio before producing a short film.- Build post-production editing and audio skills including sound effects, animation and visual effects to a high level. - Gain a broad understanding of the technical aspects of location filming and broadcasting live events.**Story, Script & Development**- Explore the construct of authorship and how to construct narrative; particularly in the digital age.- Create podcasts, scripts, stories and video for multiple channels and devise an original piece for performance.- Collaborate with digital artists, musicians and film makers to deliver a spoken word project.**Emerging Technologies and Performance**- Train in the use of lighting equipment and software to produce a light and digital performance.- Develop your skills in coding and learn to create your own processes and effects.- Investigate motion capture, VR, immersive audio and 3D and the potential for creating audience-facing mixed reality projects.
